As many of you know, Kassy and I have kitties and we adore them very much!  I was testing out a new lens last week, so it was a purrrfect time to take some kitty pics of them playing with my mouse, which has a laser pointer in it.  Looking through the pics of them over the months, they definitely look like ‘adults’ now, although they act like toddlers, but we like that.  Here are our girls…Moxie and Bokeh.

What kitty doesn’t appreciate a little laser pointer action?!?

Photographers note:  These image were taken with a Nikon D3 with a 50 f/1.4G at 1600ISO, f/1.4, 1/160th sec. with light provided by hallway light, lamps, and an SB-800 bounced off a corner, gelled with a full CTO at 1/16th power and fired from the camera with a Pocket Wizard.  This is how I light smaller rooms and some receptions.  The last shot was with a Nikon D3 with a 70-200 f/2.8 VR shot wide open at f/2.8, 1/50th of a sec at 6400ISO with.

  • Wendy - You know I love photos of your kitties!!

  • Melissa - Here kitty kitty! Too cute! Love the shot of Bokeh.

  • Amanda Rae - Your kitties are soooooo cute!!! They look so much like my little babies, yours look more brown, mine are more gray. Mine don’t really *get* the appeal of the laser pointer, though!!! lol.

For 2009, I have many things planned for my business, and one of them is, is to BLOG about me more!  I really want my clients, future clients, friends, and family to get to know me better.  I thought Tuesday would be a good day to do a little something about me every week…until I run out, so here is my first Tuesday’s Tidbits post.  I am not an avid reader, something I would like to work on, but there is one author I read regularly and try and get his new books the day they come out.  Nicholas Sparks is his name and I’m sure many of you are familiar with either his books, or movies made into books such as; “Message in a Bottle“, “A Walk to Remember“, “The Notebook“, and most recently, “Nights in Rodanthe.”

His books are love stories and most if not all have some basis in his and his families lives, which is pretty neat.  Also, the stories take place where he lives, in North Carolina, which I think is great as North Carolina is so pretty and he knows it well.  Weird little fact; whenever I am reading his current book, it has some parallel’s into my life at the time…seriously….freaky!  I am a huge fan of love stories in general, which goes for movies along with books…I can’t help it, I love the emotion in them.  Yes, I do even have one of my books signed by him and I must say I was one of the only men there at the signing.  I’m fine with it…I love his books and I can’t wait for his next one!

Did you know he holds a record on Notre Dame’s 4 x 800mm relay team?  Do you like Nicholas Sparks?  Which is my favorite you ask?  Why “The Notebook” of course, but honestly, about 80% of his books I feel are on par with how awesome “The Notebook” is.  Both the book and movie are captivating and it’s definitely the best book to movie of his stories.

  • Dennis Bullock - Sparks is great! I think my favorite is Three Weeks With My Brother.

  • Amanda @ Bliss - I think I got a little too giddy seeing this post. I LOVE Nicholas Sparks and have read all but one of his books. It is nice to see that you have a great taste for good books. 🙂

  • Tira J - Finally, a man who likes and has confessed to the world that he likes Nicholas Sparks. He is also my favorite author and I have every one of his books. Kind of jealous that you have a signed copy though. And I am a little behind in reading some of his books because of graduate school. They are so good that I want to start over. Cheers to you Dustin!

  • Mom - You are such my son! Sparks fan I am for a long time… Dustin fan I am for even longer! Love ya Dusty!

  • Melissa - He is one of my favorite authors too! I made the mistake of seeing the Notebook in the theater…I have never cried that hard over a movie in my life. Love the “tuesday tidbits” idea. Keep on blogging! It’s great to see so many new posts from you!

  • Miranda - I have them all. once I start to read one I can not put it down. the only one I am not really interested in reading is two weeks with my brother….thoughts on it?

I know I just posted one yesterday, but here’s one I did in November of ’06 of the all famous Law Quad.  There is a little project I’ve been meaning to do here and I think I just may do it.  I’m glad some of you enjoyed yesterday’s image.  NOTE FOR BRIDES:  I can do this same style image pretty much anywhere with you and your husband in it, just let me know:)

  • Oakstream Photograph - Oh now that is one GORGEOUS shot!!!! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Phyllis - That is simply beautiful! Very nice.

  • Melissa - HOW DID YOU DO THAT? SOOOOOO amazing.

One thing I miss with all the craziness that is my business, is shooting for me.  Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore what I do and having the opportunity to document so many awesome couples days, but I also enjoy photographing nature scenes.  Here is one of my favs from a couple years ago.  I gave it to both my mom and dad for their birthdays, as they are in the same month…October.  I call this one, “Phantom River.”  it’s not named to sound cool or anything, but rather because so many people point out the “Phantom” shaped boulder in the upper left of the image.  Just thought it’d be nice to share something a little different.  Any local photographers want to get together and shoot some ‘fun’ stuff?
